More Retailers Go Online

It's no secret that online shopping has been making big inroads into the retail business over the years.

But what you may not be aware of is how traditional bricks & mortar retailers are fighting back...or more pointedly, joining the online world.

Big W is one example of a successful move by a traditional retailer into the online space. Big W's online store - launched just 14 months ago - now generates sales equivalent to one of its physical stores. Over 2 million customers visit the site each month.

Myer has two online stores, myer.com.au and myfind.com.au and is aiming to drive online sales from the current $5 million a year to $50 million.

Boutique furniture retailer Matt Blatt now generates 70-75% of all sales via their online shop.

Traditional retailers have a number of advantages over online only retailers. For a start, they're well known and usually trusted. And secondly, if you do need to resolve a problem, there's always a store down the road.
